Hello everyone,

Just got a 90gl bow front, 2 Marineland penguin 350 biowheel filters and 300w Aqueon heater
started cycling with fish,
4 gold barb
4 neon tetras
6 gold mollys
4 danios

The guy at Big Al's aquarium store told me to buy a product called BioBac which is suposed to help with the cycling. So I put the hole bottle, for 80gl.
The fish seem to be doing great, the water got cloudy (getting a little better). The ammonia is been around .25 or less and PH around 7.2, no nitrite yet. Its been 3 days, did one water change 20%.

We have a 16gl tank with 3 Cichlids they are doing fine. Thinking of making the 90gl a community tank, will love recomendations on pretty fish.
For what I been reading I cant trust my local petstore, they sold me an albino Oscar to put with my Cichlids on a 16gl tank, he almost didnt made it, I had to bring him back.
Thanks!!!

looks great! i'd go out and get a black background for that tank. In my 46 bowfront community, i have 2 angel fish, some neon and rummynose tetras, cory cats, and some others. Those are just a few community fish that look great in a tank together.

From what I hear those bacteria in a bottle products (other than Bio-Spira) contain the wrong type of bacteria and don't really do anything.

The exception is the Bio-Spira bacteria, it does work from what I hear.

hey, I love BF tanks, I only have a 72gal so am jealous of your very nice 90! may I ask how much you paid for the basic set up & it was from big al's in brklyn?

I saw at fishtown usa a 72BF for $900 pkg deal or $400 tank canopy glass light

may I suggest (going on a limb here!) for this beautiful tank set up you try discus. that's what I did after re-starting from a 16yr break with silver$ various sharks a pleco a school of albino corys & a pacu mistake!

now I have a 20g angel tank (they grew so much!) & my prize discus in the 72g BF.

but do your research if this interests you. I had quite a few issues in raising my juvies (lost 1 out of 15) since june start up but now I think I reached a stability pt.

so, if interested lots of discus experts in this forum to help you out + www.simplydiscus.com is another valuable resource. good luck! enjoy your new BF!

Sounds good! An Apistograma dwarf cichlid colony would look great in there. Pairs and harems of:
-Cockatoo dwarf cichlid harem
-Agassiz's dwarf cichlid pair
OR
-Dwarf flag cichlid pair
-Hongsloi dwarf cichlid pair

Then just choose a peaceful tetra species and you are all set.

I actualy found the deal on Craig's list, it was posted for $200 just the tank and the stand. I live in the FL Key's and the guy lived in coral springs, 2 1/2hr drive. I call the guy and told him about the long drive, he said that if I came and pick it up $100 would do it. Any way my wife and I got in the car the next morning and pick it up. Oak stand and it looks brand new.

Big Al's is a big aquarium store right in coral springs fl, pick up the filters, glass top and light, some rocks, air pump, gravel and the guy sold me this new product call BioBac nitrifing bacteria that was suposed to make the cycling faster and better. For what been reading the BioBac was a waste of $.

Any way I will look in to the Discus, I will also like a pair of Angels if posible, trying to have a colorfull variety other than cichlids. I am very exited about the new tank and looking forward to a lot of learning of this great hobby.

Thanks a bunch and any other ideas are very welcome.

If you are doing a in-fish cycle then you must do at LEAST 50% water change every day or every other day.
Add more danios and tetras so they can school properly.
Discus would look very nice in a bow like that, but the temp would be a bit high for the danios, since they are subtropical.

Oh- and be sure to check the silicone seals on a used bow tank, they are more prone to leaking if the seals are corrupted.

Wow those Discus are beautyfull. I look at the website, they seem hard to keep fish for a newbbie like me. I will love to have some of those in the future.

What about some Angelfish, red tail shark and some colorfull schooling fish ???

Got some nitrite .25, did water change 20%. The water is clearing up nicely, fish look happy.
When ammonia and Nitrites go back to normal, does that means the tank is cycled ?
