Awesome! My lfs says hey get these guys in often but I have yet to see them lol.

You have to look very closely, they blend in to substrate easily when stressed.

ive never quite understood what these are. are they cichlids or are they antaboids? what kind of parameters do they like?

They're anabantoids. I've never seen them breathe from the surface though. They like slightly soft and acidic water with a temp around 78.
