Just got him and I am already feeding him crickets. What a maw! I am trying to locate a 125 gallon tank for him but he is now in my 55 with a divider separating him from large African cichlids. I should have waited but my LPS said he was wild collected and should not get drop eye.

what a beauty!!!!
i just saw one for the first time the other day at a newly discovered LFS, and i was drwan in to the sleek design of these wonderful fish...

Good luck!

BTW, how do you feed the cricketss, etc. and what do you feed as they get larger?

Blackwolf, I looked on some of the other forums and you can feed them fish pellets, shrimp, and goldfish. This is my first one so I am learning. They can turn so fast and touch their tail with their mouths. The little mouth tentacle thingies can rotate up and down and I think they flatten them out when swimming on the surface and use them to detect vibrations of things that fall in the water. Get one even though they are expensive if you can get a big tank for one. I kind of put the cart before the horse and am searching for a large acryllic tank setup.

sweet.....i wouldnt feed goldfish to an arowana though, too much of unwanted bio stuff etc..

i would be too tempted to just keep dropping crickets so they hit the surface and the fish nails 'em....then i'd move up to the bigger stuff...

can i ask, why acryllic?

You might want to hurry on that big tank. In case you weren't aware, Silver Arowanas (when properly cared for) will grow up to 2" per month until they hit about 16". It's best to keep them off of goldfish, but feed them crickets, krill, beefheart, shrimp, smelt, and pellets. Congrats on a nice fish, you just took on a big responsibility:)

Just a reminder... keep a lid on the tank. One that cannot be easily pushed. THose things are nasty jumpers. Lightweight lids can be breached. Nice fish :p:

too cute! We can't wait until the big tank is ready for him! :D

Dude nice pickup looked just like mines when i got both of my silvers when they were little..how much did u pay for the little guy..?

Thanks everyone, I want an acryllic tank because of the weight issue. My house is on a hill and not on a slab and I have large parallel beams that hold up the floor. I will situate the tank so it is perpendicular and rests on 2 or 3 of the beams. The glass tanks are much cheaper though. Menace, this fish was 79. If I waited til the second Tuesday of the month; I may have gotten 2 for the same price if they were still in stock. They have a 2 for Tuesday special. I may end getting 2 more for a larger tank. I was going to get a jardini for 99 but read about the incompatability issues when they get larger. I have never seen a black and the Asian Arowana is out of the question so I got this guy. Thanks for the feeding info Rallysman. I am really excited because the LPS got a new manager and they are getting some nice fish. They just got in some big Clown Knifes that I want for the tank. Now if they would only quit buying the dyed fish.

Wow, what a cute little baby!
