Congratulations... that tank in the first shot looks a little overstocked. What kind of filtration are you running there? :)

Kids are great... enjoy the time with your baby, they grow up fast.

No, that is not my mom. That is my midwife. She assisted at the birth of my second baby also. I thought we might be doing this baby solo as she was enroute when he was coming. She made it within 10 minutes of his arrival!

She said she was going to miss me having babies (since this is our last) as I make her job so easy!

Birthing in water has been done for a long time. I know there are cultures which birth in water frequently. I want to say in Bali, but I'm not certain.

The water gives you bouancy and support that you just don't get on dry land. It eases the intensity of contractions and helps to hydrate your tissues which allow the necessary stretching for the birth without any soft tissue damage (tearing or abrasion). I am sure this may not be the case for every woman but it has been true for me.

There is a really nice birthing dvd called Birth As We Know It that shows gentle natural birth and contrasts it with the medical model. It's just two different worlds.
