So I just got a cute little banjo cat, but was wondering about what to feed him. Will he eat flakes? Or will he need bloodworms (which I have plenty of)?

they will eat pretty much anything. if you have an established gravel bed, sometimes they can sustain themselves.

I have a banjo catfish that came in as a hitchhiker on some plants. Have had him for about 6 months and have seen him maybe 4 times. All four of those times were when I was re-scaping my tank and "dug" him up. I cant help you with the feeding question, I have never seen mine eat. Just thought I'd let you know, unless you have a bare bottom tank, you may never see yours either, they burrow.

Yep, I'm aware of that. They're just such neat little fish I couldn't resist.

They'll eat anything at all. I think it's easiest to feed them flake (I tried shrimp pellets, but the pellets are too big for them to eat). I just release a pinch under the surface of the water so it sinks. Sometimes they get brine shrimp or softened up pellets too. I've found that mine will often come out for food if the tank is dark but still a small amount of room lighting (so I can see them). They're awesome to watch zipping about looking for food. I have sand and to bury themselves they turn nose down and vibrate like crazy.

Well I must be some lucky SOB. The room light is on, not the tank light, but easily enough light to see everything in the tank, And there he is, sitting right out in the open. At first I wondered where that 'leaf' came from!
