I just got a new Betta fish over the weekend and so far I love it!! I do not exactly know what the right temp. for the tank should be. I am also interested in adding a couple of other fish to the tank. Does anybody have any idea of what would be a good tank mate? It is a small tank 3 gal. I just want 1 or 2 more fish in there. Any general info on this little guy let me know.

Thanks

My Tank:
1 55 gallon - 1 orange fancy tail
2 orange feeder golfish

1 3 gallon - 1 pink Betta

Is the betta female or male? If it is a female you could safely put another female with it. If it's a male I would recomend maybe just adding some ghost or amano shrimp. Or maybe an otto? I'm not sure if they will thrive in that small of a tank or not. I currently have a two gallon hex with 1 male betta, a couple of ghost shrimp and a mystery snail and everyone seems to be happy and healthy. Good luck!

I am not sure if it is a male or female. How do I tell the difference? I have a pic of it but I cant figure out how to put it on this thing.

Males are much more extravagent than females. Males have larger fins and are often more colorful.

That's a male!! Males are known to be very agressive, so use caution when adding any friends. Like I said before, try to add a couple shrimp, some bettas will eat them, some wont (mine leaves them alone) and a snail or two!! :)

In a larger tank bettas usually do well with corys, platys, any thing that won't go after those gorgeous fins. or have long fins itself (your betta might see him as competion)

but with only three gallons I'd but in an apple snail and a few ghost shrimp at most.

Both are fasinating to watch-my betta herds the shrimp arround the bottom when he's bored-he hasn't tried to take a bite since the first few days they were there- the female ghost shrimp turn green if and when they have eggs.

If you get a snail be sure to supplement it with some blanched veggies.

Oh yeah and bettas like the temp between 79-82 F I keep mine at 80. good luck!

Thank you so much for the help. I thought it was a male but I wasnt sure. It has like a pink body and a light blue tail. It seems that he has gotten a lot more blue on it since I brought him home. What about adding some Bumble Bee Gobies. I think that is what they are called.

Thanks

I have a heater that I used for an old 20 gallong tank I had a while back but since I got Goldfish I dont use it anymore. I know that I cant put it in the 3 gallon so I guess I will just save it. There is a light on the 3 gal. and I keep it on in the day time and it really heats the water up. But I turn it off at night. I hope the temp. difference will not affect him. Will it? I also have a filter that goes under the rocks with a tube that comes out of the top (sorry I dont know that name). It makes bubbles and the water is moving (not alot). Will that mess him up?
