wow i always thought the blue stuff was stress coat, wish i knew that before i added the water that came with my betta into the tank.. bad idea on my part.
At one point out of the blue my Betta was unable to float and just lay listlessly on the bottom for a couple weeks, only moving to get food and breathe at the surface. He was constipated and somehow his swim bladder was being effected. Just a note, be careful not to overfeed him. Think about the size of the stomach you're feeding.
What people suggested, which worked, was fasting him for a few days. Eventually he passed the blockage and has been great since. You can see the swim bladder as the small bulge near the rear of their body. When mine was sick, the bulge was missing. Also, people suggested feeding a skinned, cooked pea after the fasting. I never got to that, but if constipation is his problem, this might help. Also, when you do resume feeding, be careful to feed less than normal and slowly get ack to normal...which still isn't that much.
thanks to everyone for your helpful responses. Well when i got home from work today, my betta's fins look all frayed... seems like fin rot. I am perplexed how it could be bad water. I have started antifungal treatment using Applus anti fungal treatment. My sis had luck with that medication for her betta.
I have also added a piece of filter sponge to reduce the water current after adding the filter back. I have taken the carbon out though due to the medication.
Wonder why the poor guy is so stressed out. He seemed healthy when I bought him
Yes I just got back from work and tested the water again. Everything looks fine. I hav been checking AM and PM. Right now, he almost on his side at th bottom of the tank, his fins all completed frayed and gone.
He seems to be breathing hard. Did not eat again. Today is the 5 th day I hv had him and he has never eaten. I have APPlus Fungus medication in the water.
I am clueless and wonder if he can be saved?
