i set up my 2.5 gal mini bow. got white gravel 1 inch high, 2 fake plants, a treasure chest with holes in it, a submerged filter(no current!), and a heater. so is this ok for a betta? (i know it is, just want opinions)

What type of fake plants did you get? Plastic plants can shred your betta's fins. Otherwise, IMO, you're fine.

He should be very happy  but as said above, watch out for those plants! I read somewhere that if you can rub them up against pantyhose without snagging them the plants should be ok

YEEAAHH for me! i got my new betta! 3 bux at my LFS. He's 1 inch long, whit-pink-orange body with red blotches where the fins meet the body.and a neon blue-green on the top and bottom of his back-center fins. and he loves me! :dance2: i come to the tank, and he comes right to me! gave him crushed pellets and brine shrimp, hes good. :thm: i took pics, but i gotta use all the roll, then i get it developed, then scan, save, and transfer. so, A WHILE.

Congrats on your new betta !

If the tank isn't cycled, be sure to keep up on the water changes to prevent fin issues. Their fins are pretty delicate and will tend to tatter if the ammonias or nitrites get out of hand.

I have a betta in a 2 gallon and I do water changes once a week. But it's a planted tank so the plants help to keep the ammonia down. A water change twice a week should do in an unplanted tank.

Good luck with the new family member...lol...they're just like puppies really....in fact, I call them "water puppies". Watch yourself there...you may find yourself running out to get another...and another...and.... :D

are'nt there chemicals to lower the ammonia? and i had a tadpole on my hand that fell into the tank, and he tried to eat it! but no success. it may be hes not hungry, or they dont taste good. do they taste bad?( do fish think that)

Congrats on your new betta! Looking forward to pix.

I use a water conditioner (Amquel+) that removes ammonia, since my tap water contains ammonia so my partial water changes during the cycle weren't lowering the ammonia past a certain point.

Prime is another water conditioner that gets rid of ammonia.

Do you have test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate?
