hi people, i got 2 new blue rams yesterday and i havent seen them eat and are very shy and hide behind and in plants. is this normal for them and will they become more active out in the open? my main concern is that they dont come out and eat.

as long as your water conditions are good, give them a few days, they're probably just stressed from the move and need some time to adjust.

When I got my Rams they were shy for a couple of days and then they really started to explore and play around. Now(1 1/2 months later) they are always messing around. They are very curious. Always come over and watch me when i'm in the chair beside the tank. I really enjoy them.

My male ate the second day I got the pair. The female ate on day three.

They lived through a mini-cycle for about a week and suffered no ill-effects.

my 1st male angel died, and that stressed the female and she kept hiding, so i turn her light off anf put a dark towel over the tank for 2 days just to let her relax, then i slowly took the towel off at night so shge wouldnt notice untio morning, and she was fine

What are you feeding them? Rams are generally mid to low water fish, and they seem to prefer feeding on the bottom of the tank rather than the surface. I use a turkey baster to squirt thawed bloodworms down where they lurk. And they might just need time to acclimate. My rams don't like spending a lot of time in open water. I have a lot of live plants, and they like to swim through the plants.

mine eat at the surface, in fact, theyll follow me anywhere beggin for scraps. "silly fish, probly not." :)
