For some reason I was thinking Dovii must be too early. Buttikoferi are also known as Frontosa. They are an african species and require diffrent water requirements then your Neo Tropical cichlids. I would return him it most likely wont work out. Even with the oscar and RD it most likely won't work out. An oscar needs 75 gallons to itself.

aw c'mon, that's not even close. Tilapia buttikoferi is from West Africa, Guinea and Liberia to be exact. Frontosa is an East African cichlid from Lake Tanganyika.

getting a buttikoferi rather than a red devil is no improvement. the butt grows to 16 inches and is one of the most beligerant cichlids out there. you've got too many fish that grow much too large for a 75 gallon tank. in all likelhood, you're going to lose the oscar ... it's not nearly aggressive enough to withstand a red devil and a buttikoferi. following that, one of the remaining two is going to kill the other. please do some research BEFORE you purchase fish.

Buttikoferi

I agree with you! Why are there so many people out there who have no idea what a Buttikoferi Tilapia is or how to keep it or how big it grows? People get a clue before you buy a fish. You'll be happier, the fish will be happier and you'll save alot of fishy lives in the long run!

butti are beautiful fish i think ive had mine for 1 year now and they grow fast, and yes the are tilapia fish and very aggresive as they mature, they also get very big, mine is about 12- 14 inches long and i keep him in my 135 gallon with my oscar, even tho they are african cichlid they are not like the malawis or tanga ones, they can be kept with large central or south americans cichids, but i do recomend u get a bigger tank for him because a 75 gallong with and oscar and a rd just is not enough for this beast lol

The $24 is probably ok, but you have to also add in the cost of the rd and oscar he's going to kill! :shark:

You know how old this thread is right?

Shoot! No, it showed up as unread and I never looked at the date! Wonder if that butter killed the other fish!
