New Car Incentives

Not me. I guess I am old-fashioned. I drive a car until it becomes too expensive to repair vs. the value of the car. Right now we have a 94 Mazda extra cab pickup and a 98 Ford Taurus. Buying a car isn't something I can afford to do just because the deal is good. I have to plan and scrape and plot and then I can put the money into it.bdobosz said:

I don’t think it will ever happen. Not with the American mindset that bigger is better. I find it kind of funny that when gas is at its highest levels all of the sudden the big horse power cars start making a re-entry into the market. The politics around oil has always been a hot topic for me. What if instead of invading Iraq, $10+ billion went into funding alternative energy sources and we said goodbye to mid-east oil? But that’s another topic...

I'm a fan of fuel-sippers as well...That's why I own a F 350 with a Power Stroke diesel-18mpg city, 22 mpg hwy, 20 mpg hwy pulling a 4,000 lb. boat. This is in a 4wd model. 2wd are even more efficient.
fuel sippers, come on, the new 2006 Z06 Corvette with 500 horsepower, 475 Lb-ft of torque and a 6 speed manual :clap: :bowing: . Now i just need $75,000

There's something wrong with America when people are talking about anything less then 30mpg being a sipper... maybe it's someone hooked up to a soda fountain with a 1/2 inch PVC straw type sipper....
At least in the current gas market... of course there are PLENTY of vehicles on the market still that get 16-18 mpg so 25 or more is significantly better... and that towing mpg is somewhat impressive...
I'd also like to point out a BMW 7 series that weighs about 4000 lbs vs my Buick Century that weighs about 3300 lbs both vehicles with a 6 cyl engine... the BMW gets a LOT more horsepower, has better 0-60 even though it weighs more, runs quieter and smoother, and gets BETTER GAS MILEAGE TOO... obviously the american companies are slacking on the engine design...

Thats why I bought a brand new Nissan this time around. I've always had Fords. I had a Ford Mustang, then a Ford Ranger, and then a Ford Explorer. When I went to trade in my '96 Explorer, I test drove a few american vehicles like Chevy, Ford and Dodge. but they were all low quality and not efficient. and they're all plagued with recalls. the interiors were also cheap looking and not comfortable.
there's not an incentive in the world that will make the car better. instead of offering all these incentives they need to build a better vehicle. i'll spend more on a car if it's going to last me 8 years or more. and cost little to maintain. almost all my friends drive Hondas and have had no problems with them. they'd laugh when i'd tell them that my Ford Explorer was at the dealer again with another recall.
I would have gotten a Toyota Tacoma if I could have afforded it. But at the time, my Explorer was on its last leg and I didnt have any savings in the bank. and almost every dealer laughed when i said my trade in was an SUV. not only that but a FORD SUV. but I got the blue book value on it, a whole whopping $3500. so I got the Nissan Sentra for now.
When I get some $$$ saved up in a couple years I will trade it in for a Toyota truck. small econoboxes are great for commuting. but when you own three large dogs...it just isnt ideal.
