new cichlid tank setup !!

guys what if i get

2 angel fishes ??
i heard they are some type or related to cichlids too

2 angels
1 red tail shark
convicts with firemouths?

because im looking for the 2 angels to be the head of the tank i dont want all my fishes just hiding all day lol
You are going to have to skip the shark. You will have to choose one or the other with the convicts or angels. Firemouth are probably not really good for that tank.

In that size tank I would give the firemouths a miss ... they are pretty stroppy and definately wouldn't go with angels as they would beat the angels up ... in fact in my experience they are best kept in a species tank!

get one con one firemouth same sex and get some dithers or schoolers like a group of tigerbarbs with a small plec like rubberlip pleco or bristlenose pleco so

1 con
1 firemouth
6 to 8 tigerbarbs
1 rubberlip or bristlenose plec

and u should be set to go..

YOu usually can't mix cons and firemouths, but you definitely shouldn't in a 30 gallon. Firemouths do better in larger tanks (like 40 gallons). If you want cichlids for a 30 gallon go with a pair of julies, cons, or shell dwellers(in this case you sould have a couple of pairs and have a bristlenose pleco). Do not mix these. Cons should never be mixed with other cichlids in most tanks and julies and shell-dwellers cant usually live together in a 30 gallon. If you follow these rules you should have a successful tank.

ok first FMs dont useally get past 6 inches they stay around teh size of cons and ive seen plenty of ppl on here and on mfk telling others thaat its fine to have a con and fm togther in a 30 gallon even a 29 is ok as long as there the only occupents unless u want dithers like danios

I guess you could but I think if this is his first cichlid setup then he should try to avoid problems, which can easily occur in a 30. I guess if he really wanted a firemouth he could get oen, but I would say it is best to stay away from mixing those in a 30 gal, unless you have considerable experience in aggression management. For a beginner, his best bet is cons, but a firemouth is fine if he really wants it. I think firemouths, as a 6-inch fish, deserve a 40 gallon tank. But in this regard, it is just my opinion I guess.

firemouths min tank size is perferably 30 gallons 55 would be best with tank mates but i wouldnt see why there would be a problem with a con and firemouth only tank as long as there like both females, males wont get along in a 30.

help?

hey guys fish lover here again just wondering some few things,
ok first...
i ended up buying for my 30G tank, 3 convicts and 1 green terror all 2-3 inches in size,
the green terror is 3 inch and the convicts about 2 and a half.

but i think my convicts are pairing up meaning im going to remove the odd one out of the tank and with the green terror, he seems to not be eating and just staying in his cave 24/7 eversince they paired up or atleast acting like they are, they swim around an inverted pot and removed some pebbels it had inside of it, and they also tend to chase the odd convict around the tank everytime they see him.

im just worried about my gt not eating, he also seems to be breathing heavily through his gills and mouth, while in his cave.

any suggestions please ? iv had my tank set up for about 2 weeks now and i did a water change on monday removing about 10 gallons and adding 1 teaspoon of amquel to remove the chlorine,

please help

all i can say is watch out! my cichlids ate one of there tank mates!!!

LITERATELY!
