Hello all!

Our new clown pleco (Bozo, hehe) is sick. Two days after we brought him home he developed spots which I thought were ick. I treated accordingly for 2 weeks with heat and salt. I don't know when/if the spots disappeared, as he is a rather shy and reclusive little fishy. Just now I was looking at the tank and he came out to munch on some zuchinni. The places where he had spots now look like small fuzzy patches. I can't decide what disease it is, though I have looked at endless picutres of sick fishies. Pics come out too fuzzy to see anything worthwhile.

I will go pick up meds tomorrow, as he is really important to me. What meds would you pick up? I was thinking about Maracyn and Maracyn2, to cover all bases. Or should I go with an antifungal? What will meds like this do to my good bacteria?

He is currently 1 1/2 inches in length.

Tank is 40g. Ammonia-0. Nitrite-0, Nitrate-10.

50% water changes once a week, with serious gravel vac.

Moderately planted, with Hagen CO2 ladder.

Other occupants include various barbs.

Thank you for helping me save my fishy!!

Its important that you go with a serious gravel vac. lol. j/k.

I hope he gets better. I like him name. Bozo the clown. lol.

I really dont know to much on this subject, but I THINK, (dont quote me) salt is bad for plec's?

I've never used Formalin to treat for ich but somebody did suggest it as a treatment against ich. Another med suggested was Protozin.
The medication is called Formalin. You will want to use it at 1/2 dose (1 drop per gallon instead of 2). Very important to increase circulation and aeration in the tank before using this med, as it can deplete oxygen levels, especially at higher temps. Usually an air stone or 2 with an air pump are plenty, and this can be discontinued after medication is completed.

Good luck.:)

The above post I made was in answer to Andrew's question. Oh well..He did say not to quote him.:)

That is a good resource. Thanks! Unfortunately. QT is not an option. If I were able to keep one, this hopefully wouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the help!

fuzzy patches can either be fungus (in which case remove carbon and treat with jungle buddies fungus cure tablets) or they could be a sign of columnaris. look for pictures of that to be sure.
