For some reason not to my knowledge i have a wanting to keep a bluegill. has any one ever had one? Anything i should know? i am going to put it in a 40 gal tank that iam cycling right now.

My worry is that I am going to pull it out of a lake and if the shock of going from lake size to tank size is going to kill it. Also the possible size of the fish worries me, i have cought some large bluegill but with regular feeding the that ******* has got to get big right? how BIG?

he should get around atleast 6 inches. the record is over a foot long. so im thinking in a 40 gallon if you catch a really small one he should get around 6-8. im waiting till spring so i can toss half a dozen or so into my pond.

Blue gill perch, right? Had one brought home to me supposedly as a gift. I hope thats the only fish you want to keep in one tank. I think you have to school them or keep only one. Mine attacked and killed anything else it saw including another blue gill. I think they get at least 12 inches. They do grow fast. Mine went back to the pond it came from after about 4 months. It did great in my 55 gallon. It was only about 4 in. though. I want to have different fish though, that's why I set it free. And I requested no more "gifts"! Hope this helps some.
