first babies of 2008, oldest just came out of the nest tonight, also the first zebra finch i've seen with a white beak..babies usually have black beaks, the beaks turn orange/red as they get older.
Very cute, I wonder if the beak will stay that color. Are your finches tame?
I remember when my Zebra's hatched their first batch of eggs and refused to feed the babies. I was terrified because they are SO tiny! The entire body was about as big as the end of my thumb and they could only hold about 1 drop of food per feeding. Worked out well though they were great. Cute little buggers
nope, they are not tame, babies are just less afraid for some reason.
i doubt it will stay that color, it may turn a light orange..we'll see..it's going to be interesting. i have hatched so many babies like this one, and they've each had black beaks..i'm not sure what happened, lol..the youngest baby looks like it will also fledge with a light colored beak, while the the second oldest has a black beak..
Awww, they're cute! You must enjoy breeding them . I love how finches look, and how they dart around. They look so intelligent when they're jerking their heads around looking for predators!
The only thing I have for a bird (which really isn't mine anyway) is a female cockatiel. I'd get her a mate, but her real owner doesn't want me to. Ah well, when I have the time, I'll get a bird, someday.
