Has anyone noticed a difference in the selection at their PetSmart lately? In addition to the "manager's choice" fish (right now, they are the koi swordtails, rainbow blue platies, mono sebae, gold tetras, kribensis), I was just told today that they will be permanently adding giant gouramis, plumetail platies, white mickey mouse platies, espei rasboras, and amano shrimp ("Japanese algae eating shrimp"). I am so siked about the amano shrimp, which I have been looking everywhere for.
I also noticed that they have been changing around some of the tags.. updating the maximum size, stating that "the addition of salt is beneficial," rather than "aquarium salt is required," and even changing some names ("ahli cichlid" is finally known as the "electric blue cichlid," as it should be). The mono sebae tag even states, in large, bold print, that "this fish is a BRACKISH fish," with caps and all.

I'm pretty new to this aquarium stuff. I've only had my aquarium for about 2 months now. But it seems my local Big Name Pet store mentioned above is going the opposite direction.

It may be that I just now more what to notice now. But I don't recall half of the tanks having dead fish in them when I first got my aquarium. I went there on Sunday to get 2 more cories so the 3 I have would have more friends. And there were dead fish in quit a few of the tanks. And I'm not talking the feeder tanks - there were a lot more dead fish in those tanks.

A co-worker of mine was complaining the other day that her bf and her were at petsmart trying to buy fish and the guy wouldn't sell her the fish they wanted b/c he asked if they were going in the same tank, she said yes and he continued to let them know they needed different water temps, and were not compatible with each other (it was a few cichlids, a goldfish and a gs puffer) she was mad saying "I've never heard of fish NEEDING a certain temp" and such. I did let her know that the guy was right they indeed needed different temps and not only that the puffer needed bw and eventually needed sw, I also tried to explain the different pH levels they would each need. She acted like I was nuts, but I was actually impressed that the guy at petsmart let her know and wouldn't sell her the fish b/c of it.

^Mine too. I've never had a problem with PetSmart in general, and do not believe that they were ever in the wrong "direction."
I think the amano shrimp are going to retail for $3 each. I could be wrong though.

Mine have a great selection of fish... I mean a HUGE selection of freshwater fish! No SW unfortunately. Water is kept clean and I barely see any dead fish. The last time I went there, I didn't even see a dead fish at all.

Relatively cheap prices too.
