I cringe when I go through the fish department and see a customer standing there with a 10 gallon " complete setup " in their hand and an employee netting out an Oscar.

 too funny afro

i so have to say something to the people doing that crap and the looks i get from the employee's its priceless..

I stopped by the new Petsmart down the road from me today for some snake bedding, and couldn't help but notice that their tanks appeared to be cycling... chock full of fish... uggghh...

just a side note.....why didn't you QT the new ones first...I'd hate to lose an established tnak and the fish there over some new arrivals.

Agreed on the QT for the new fish. I'm just not there with the hobby yet. I suppose I'm somewhere between the guy with the 10 gallon Oscar tank and someone who knows what he's doing.

What all would I need for a QT tank? Take some filter material from the existing tank, maybe a little of the substrate and put it into a 10 gallon tank? Do a cycle and I'm good to go? If I'm only adding new fish every 12 months, I'd just start up the tank a few weeks before I know I'll be buying more fish?

Hi, ozgood!
Just be sure that the QT is fully cycled and with water parameters similar to those of the main tank. That would be enough, IMO. By the way, how are the snow flakes doing it?

So far the new socolofi and electric yellow's are doing well. I've posted a quick picture of one of the socolofi and one of the whole tank. I did a fair amount of rock work in the past week. I removed some and added some new. I'm finally pretty happy with what I have. The fish seem to swim around the whole tank now where before the Kenyi would have all of fish in one tight ball in the top/center of the tank.

Your fishes are looking great in there! About the QT, you can keep it working and cycled the whole year, having a betta in it. If you are going to use it, move the betta to a bowl; just temporally. This is what I do.

cool deal efors thats what i will do with my 5gal standby tank i wouldnt mind a betta i havent had one in years aye.. thanks for the ideal buddy..
