After many months of having to put off setting up my 30gal. and a few issues with my tempermental cheap heater (once I get money I'm getting a better one...this one holds temp. just fine but to adjust temp is a nightmare)....I've finally added some fish!

I'd like to welcome to my home 4 tiger barbs (want to add one or two more...but 4 was all the store had unfortunately) and 5 gold barbs. They are swimming and eating quite happily and are quite adorable!

As soon as I figure out how to work this darn digital camera and make a post, I'll snap some photos.

Since it's been many years since I've kept a tank, I'm very worried about overstocking it, but I think I'm fine for now with what I have (and the future addition of 1 or 2 more tiger barbs).

I must say the wal-mart I got them at had a very knowledgeable person on board and the fish looked incrediably healthy. Unfortunately not much selection, but they had what I was looking for.

Well since this is a recent setup make sure to check for ammonia and nitrite levels. When you start to detect them do a water change. They will continue to grow for probably a month or so and then level off at zero and nitrates will climb. Then you can cut back to weekly water changes.

There is no such thing as too much fresh water in a freshwater tank.

Roger that. Well aware of water changes and water cycles. After all I went through 4 years of high school learning about fish tanks :) (not joking....amongst other animal care). My water was ideal when I added them, but it has been a few years since I've actively kept a tank and mostly just worried about overstocking. However, I'm neurotic about water quality so I'm sure they'll be just as happy as can be.
