Hello my wife and myself just bought our first tank, and are very excited to learn about what we can do with it. It's going to be a freshwater 55gal tank. we bought alot of stuff(heaters, filters(undergravel and above), and misc. others) Now comes the fun part what all kind of fish to add. My wife already went out and bought a no-no, according to her the lady at the pet store said it was fine, three differnt kinds of goldfish(black moor, Ryu, and someother one), a Sucker not sure of which kind, and a BETA. I know these fish should not be puut together but so far they have been ok. Anyone have any help idea's?

There is NO way that the Betta and Gold Fish should be kept together--ALL of the fish that your wife bought should be taken back like RIGHT now!!! Also, if/when you put fish into a new tank it is then going into a fish cycle--which more then likely will equal dead fish and a LOT of water changes that you are going to have to make!!!
Please explain to your wife that you both need to be in on the decision on what fish is put into the tank...and that you BOTH need to be educated in the type of fish that you are getting-what size they will get, and what compatible tank mate you can get!!
So again PLEASE take back the fish, and then over the time that your tank is cycling (here is a good link to fishless cycling: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81388) PLEASE look into the fish that you both want...and figure out what others are compatible with them!
(Oh and all of the "Normal Pl*cos" or just "Pl*cos" that you buy at the store(s) are going to get WAY to big for your tank...so when you are ready for one{once you start seeing algae} please make sure that you get one that will stay small enough for your tank!)

I would strongly advise not using the UGF(undergravel filter). They are old technology, and are becoming out-dated.
