Roan - thanks for that, what a gorgeous fish! I'd snap that up if I found it. There's lots of Java moss in the tank now, in fact I harvest it every couple weeks and give it away - the stuff grows like crazy.
Lunchbox - there are seven Amano plant shrimp in the tank ATM, they're loads of fun to watch. I've had these guys forever, they were in my 65g when it was a planted tank. I moved them into the 10g when I converted the 65g to marine a few months ago. They're always moulting and carrying eggs, so I figure they're pretty happy
I think part of the problem with this tank was that it was in a spot where I couldn't easily sit and watch it (on top of a filing cabinet). It was borderline neglected - I did water changes and fertilized, but didn't pay much attention to the tank beyond that. My husband agreed that it might re-spark my interest if it was in a place where I'd see it all the time, so today we moved it. Now it's right beside the 30g reef tank at the perfect height for me to sit in a chair and stare for hours
I've left all the plants, but turned the large piece of bogwood around so things look slightly different. I also removed the majority of the moss so the tank has a cleaner appearance.
The current inhabitants will stay, they've all been with me for a long time - some since 2003 - and I've decided not to part with them. What's in the tank now:
3 otocinclus catfish
7 Amano shrimp
1 platinum kuhli loach (forgot about him until I moved things today, never see him)
I'm planning a trip to the LFS tomorrow to see if they've got anything that catches my eye. I agree that a honey gourami would be nicer than a dwarf, not sure if either will be available but I'll check. I'm thinking what might look nice is a gourami, or a male fancy guppy as a centerpiece, with maybe a group of harlequin rasboras or neons...
