Went to the lfs to pick up some Harlequin Rasbora. The stock they had didn't look healthy so I passed and went to the next fish store down the street. Went there and they didn't have any Harlequin Rasbora, but I did see these beauties the emperor tetra is what they called them. I had researched them before and knew about them and that they get to be 3" for the males. I could pass them up as they are just a beautiful tetra. I am thinking that they are the emperor tetra. What do you all think. I ended up getting 12 of them. Looks like 3 males 9 females

I like emperors too although they grow quite a bit larger than Harlequin rasboras. Did you take out the guppies? Keep testing! Good luck!

Those are emperor tetra alright, Nematobrycon palmeri . They can be a little big for a 55gal, but will work. They are a beautiful fish though.
I usually recommend Inpaichthys Kerri for tanks of 55 or less.

I'm planning to get 10 or 15 of these in my 100g. Ive been reading about them all week. My only reservation is that I have angelfish and these being upper level swimmers (so I have read) may look like food to the angels if they happen to be very small when I get them.

If the tetras are 2 inches or almost, they may be safe from your angels. Are your angels adults? Do you have plants or other décor that would allow them to hide if they need to? I'm a big advocate for even a few live plants. Java ferns & anubias are very easy in almost any tank & come in several different leaf shapes.

I kept them years ago,. They easily exceed two inches and breed readily, but the Cichlids should take care of that.
They're only so-so schoolers.
