Hi,

I'm looking for some different foods for my tank. Currently, I have a Yellow Tang, Blue Spotted Puffer (little one), and 4 chromis. I've been feeding them a variety of frozen and fresh food including:

--Mysis Shrimp
--Small clams (frozen and fresh)
--Bloodworms
--Brine Shrimp
--Emerald Green
--Seaweed sheets

Except for the clams, I've been buying my food from the LFS in those blister packs and alternating between them. I've found that my fish mostly go for the mysis shrimp but I want to do something different. Can anyone suggest anything else?

never been able to get mine to take krill...even with garlic on it....fussy buggers my lot are.......kids eh?...................

Oh fish!!!.....right.....Mine adore silversides, scallops, squid and clam....

what about leafy greens and such for herbivores, omnivores?.... is that a possibility???

krill are very good for puffers because their teeth are constantly growing. however, yes, you will have to feed other things and this will not actualy wear the puffer's teeth down as much as a clam will. only delay the process. unfortunatly, my old valentini (he got caught on a powerhead when he tried pearching there at night to sleep *cries*) never would even touch live clams, so he wasnt able to break them open or chew them. when feeding live clams, just crack them and your puffer, if unlike mine, should go right to them. the biting of the shell while trying to get to the meat is great for their teeth.
and trust me, you do NOT want to ignore a puffer's dentistry. I would always try to help mine, but since he wouldnt eat anything crunch ehough, nothing would happen and they would slowly grow and grow. i had him for over a year and a half until his eating was clearly affected by his teeth in the way. he could no longer take a bite or krill so i had to tear it up into really small pieces and use other tiny pieces of food that he could suck in. with all the extra effort of eating, he would also eat less, not because i offered less, but because it was more of an effort and he would stop after 15-20 minutes or so so he got really skinny. eventualy i jsut said it was enough and had to capture him while he was sleeping. then i clipped his teeth with nail clippers (while holding him under water of course because he obviously puffed up. puffer+waterinbelly=bad news.I held a washcloth over his eyes to try to calm him but he was still pretty angry. when he puffed up, he was close enough to the surface to suck in an air bubble. so then after i clipped his teeth (which was a lot harder than i had planned....) i then had to work on massaging his bell to get rid of the air bubble. In the large puffers such as a stars and stripes or a porkupine (which may be harder to hold. lol), it comes to the point where you have to anesthisize them with ethol alcohol and use a dremel!!!! but anyways, he was then eating much much better and quickly gaining wieght, and then he tried pearching on my powerhead a few weeks later :(
anyways, make sure those teeth stay down

My fish are all little guys so I don't put the whole krills in there, I break them up or used what is crushed in the bottom of the jar. As soon as I open the jar though, I have to start beating my cats off, they think I'm opening a can of tuna or something. I feed all of mine flakes twice a day (with garlic) then with 'dinner' they get either brine (live or freeze dried) blood worms or krill. They seem to like the krill the best though.

I have 2 blue tangs a pair of ocelaris clowns and a bi colour blennie, they seem to ignore krill but love brine and occasionaly go for mysis. They seem to enjoy ocean plankton as well.
