A relative purchased three glo tetras (which I suppose are genetically modified white skirts?) around a year ago, but now I'm only left with one, and he tends to hide in a little house in the tank (nearly all the time). I want to purchase a bigger tank, as I feel that his current home is inadequate, and, being a schooling fish, I don't believe it's healthy for him to live in solitude. So, I'll probably end up purchasing about four more, and I'm considering buying a 10g for a school of five. Is there anything I should know before purchasing a new tank, or would that be an adequate size for a school?

Thanks.

Nothing against a 10g tank, I've got a few sitting unused, but for a fish of this type, size and nature, I'd go for a 20g long as a minimum. Much better footprint than a 10g, a lot more options for you.

Gotcha. Thanks!

Is your tank cycled?

I don't even have a tank yet. I was just asking.

10 gallons are a bit small for whiteskirts, so yeah, a bigger tank is better.
Having said that, I am not a fan of glowlight fish.
They are not genetically long lived IME,

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I know. Poor things are basically Franken-fish, having been genetically-modified like that, then trademarked like property. It's pretty disgusting to think about. Wonder if the modding has anything to do with it?

Yeah, I don't know. Seems like every one is different. Well, at least that keeps things interesting, I guess. Haha!

I guess it's a little better than the injected fish they used to sell years ago (painted glass fish). But I wonder if it would school with normal white skirts?
