When I got my snail, the people at the store told me I don't have to feed them anything, just that they eat the scum in the tank. Is this right. I got a snail before and it died within a few weeks so I thought i'd try on another snail again. And also is it normal for a snail not to move around much the first couple days. My first one did that too.

you must feed them or they will starve. I reccomend algae wafers and fresh vegtables. just buy a veggie clip and clip the vegtable leaf to the side of the tank.

what we do it feed them lettus and algae wafers. we sink the lettus by tying it to a rock. they love it. sometimes we feed them carrots or cucumber. they love it!

Agreed about the feeding recommendations. I usually blanch veggies (zucchini mostly) because they like their food soft. I also feed mine algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and flake food.

It's not at all uncommon for snails to hide for a few days. One thing to check (if you don't know already) is the nitrate levels. Snails are more sensitive than fish, and they will be much much more active if nitrate is very low.

So normal human lettuce is good to put in the tank? Do they actually eat all of it? The people at the store should tell me this stuff. And what are algae wafers? Do you get them at the pet store? And also the snail started moving and it climbed one of my plants and is now on the glass.

Human lettuce and other veggies you get from the supermarket are fine. I don't think most pet store workers are interested in invertebrates (like snails) other than for algae clean up - so they don't know this kind of information.

Algae wafers are fish food, sold at most fish stores. They're usually disks that sink (since they are designed for plecos, which eat on the bottom).

if u want to buy algae wafers never buy the Hikari algae wafers.they contains msg ehich they say it's for flavour enhancing.i say that feed ur snails with lettuce and cucumber or zucchini and never give them spinach since spinach will rot fster than cabbage.

BTW I reccomend feeding collard greens, as they are high in calcium. you must make sure your apple snail gets enough calcium so he can build his shell properly.

he probably won't like them at first, as collard greens are quite bitter, but if you let him go hungry long enough he'll eat them and eventually eat them without issue.
