New guy with a 300g

Very nice tank so far! I'm jealous..I just picked up a 75 gallon from glasscages last weekend...what I wouldn't do for a 300 gallon! :perv:

Thanks for all the great comments. This 300g has been my biggest fish related project yet.
And I am loving it.

To address a few questions posted:

The background is your regular run of the mill roll cut background from Big Al's. 32 tall by 8 feet long.
I went through 4 different backgrounds..Black,Blue and two rock formations. I tried the SeaView stuff on them all as well. But I ended up with the rock formation without the seaview in the end.
With all the lighting and the seaview attached to the background,it took away from the foreground decor. It was really bright.
But without the seaview, it's just noticable enough to provide a little depth and seperate the foreground from the background.

The fish that will be moved into the tank will be South and Central American Cichlids. Severums mainly but also Green Terror,Synspilium,Blood Parrot,Blackbelt and Nicaraguenses.
Severums are my favorite and may be the only thing in the tank when it all comes down to it. But for now, I have those other fish sitting in a 75 gallon patiently waiting on there new home.

The only real issue I have run into so far was the Pool filter sand that I used as substrate in the beggining.
I washed that stuff untill my backyard looked like a swamp.
But when I added it to the tank and filled it with water, it still clouded up.
I done a few water changes and waited on my Eheim 2262 to arrive so it could filter the rest of the debris out.
When I finally got the 2262 hooked up and filtering, the flow from the filter was so great that it pulled the rest of the debris out of the sand and completely clouded the tank.
So rather than fight with it, I just removed the sand and put gravel in.
Personally, I like the gravel much better.

Here is a pic of the tank with the sand in it.

That's an awesome tank. Can't wait to see pictures of fish in it!

Thanks. Just as a side note, the pic above is what the tank used to look like.
The way it looks now is on the first page of the thread.

Good choice on the tank. I have bought about 8 tanks from them and become good friends with Tom and Beth... The owners.
There has been a lot of bad reviews out there about them and a lot of tank bashing. Mostly customer service and large tank failures.
I dont know the details of all that stuff and how true most of it is, but I have had nothing but great tanks and great experience with Glasscages.
And when the time comes for another tank, Glasscages will be the brand.
