:help:Hello, This is a great site. I've been reading on this sight for mounths and it is very helpfull. but now I have a problem and i can t find the answer. ok here it goes. I have a 55 gal that has been set up for about 5 months at frist I had 3 jelly parrots .two green severums 2 green terrors and albino tetra he got thorn in ther because he was picking on my corie in my 10 gallon. after 2 week of have the green terrors i took them back to the lfs, I did not know they could get realy mean and to big for my tank. As stupied as I was I went and got 1 pupple blood parrot and 3 gaint danios. So in my tank now I have 3jelly bean parrots 2 severums and 1 pupple blood parrot 3 danios and the tetra. I now I is over stocked Iam getting rid of the danios and tetra as soon as I can chatch them. But that is not my problem now. my puple blood parrot has a bad case of ich.i notice it sat. the danios have it and tetra severum on his fins, but the blood parrot has it all over her body. I started salt 1table spoon per gal like the guy at the lfs said and melafix and turned up the heat 84. I did a water change of 20% on sun. Right now the parrot is still not doing any better and is still covered with little white dots not eating sleeping all the time. Amonia is 0, nitrate 40, nitrite 0. Is ther anytthing to help my pupple blood parrot get these spots off quicker the salt and high temp dont seem to be helping much. Can i still ad a ich med in with the salt and melafix or would that to much and kill my fish. thanks for any help.

What foods are you feeding it? Is it eating well? Foods are very important to boost his immune system enabling him to resist the ich. Avoid anything that will stress your fish while they are under ich infestation. All I did to finish off ich is use salt and heat. No need for medicines and most of these meds will destroy your biological filtration.

I been feeding them cichlid crumbles, freeze dried bloodworms and tropical flakes for the danios and tetra.I don't think she has eaten at all today or yesterday.

keep on with the salt treatment. since it speeds up the lifecycle of the parasite, the fish will look a lot worse before they start to look better. however, it is quite possible that the parrot will continue to be less healthy and more prone to disease than your other fish. purple parrots are dyed fish, not naturally colored, and the dyeing process causes them a lot of stress which can damage their immune systems for life and shorten their lifespans. not only that, but the color will likely fade after a while.

I'd try to trade the "parrot" cichlids back to a fish store, with the weakened immune systems due to the dyes, they will be generally sickly.

your better off trying to return the parrots rather than medicate them if you can. The colors dont last, and they will most likely die before the color fades away. In order to get the dye to stick to them they strip of the fishes slme coat in the process , jelly beans are going to be much more prone to disease and even if they do heal from one they are most likely going to get ich again or something worse. take them back and if u must have parrots try to find healthy orange or reds :) With slat and heat the other fish will have a chance. And yes it does get worse before it gets better, just stick with it. good luck.

melafix should be used at the same time as pimafix (sp).

I also think you need to give it more time.

I lost the purple blood parrot on tues. She was orange the store called her a purple blood parrot I don't why. or what the difference is. 1 of my severums died on tues. and a yellow jelly bean died last night. I did another 25% water change this morning. I did not add the salt I thougth maybe that is causeing more stress on them. I added the melafix. now the other severum was acting very stressed and not eating.I will probably lose it tonight I noticed it has a big burst or energy. The other that died had the same energy the night before they died. I talk to the guy a the lfs today To keep using the salt for the stress and melafix o kill the ich. He also said I could try using peroixide 1 drop per gal. has anyone heard of this? I had not tried it. i'm a afraid too. He said when his fish get sick at the store he just flushes them. He said he has salt in all of his tanks,Do a lot of stores do this to keep them from geting sick? But he deals mostly in salt water dont have much of a selection of other fish. I have not bought any fish from him. he dose have dicus oscar's cory's and some other kind. I was wondering If it could be vevlet does any nowhere I can find pics of it. Thanks for your help but it seems all of my fish are dying. The other 2 jelly beans still have it on there tails. The danioes look fine though.I have not caught them yet.
