My new aquarium hood is here! 55 Watt Power compact, 9325 K (GE). I had thought I was getting a 6500K bulb, but I guess I was wrong. Will a bulb with this range be OK for my plants? I'm inclined to think it will be, as it isn't cool white or some such like that. (and I'm not trying to grow plants like crazy... Yet.)

When I ordered my hood, I also ordered some flourish and flourish excel. I couldn't find the excel locally, and the regular flourish was cheaper than I could get it locally. I read my the warnings on the bottle of excel, and was a little surprised! hehe... bad for humans, safe for fish I guess.

Any thoughts as to how well excel works? I've seen mixed reviews from people, just curious as to everyone's thoughts.

And the regular flourish stinks. Pheew

Anyway, I'm going to see how this all works before I dive into CO2 injection. (DIY)

The kelvin rating's affect on plant growth is debatable, plants will grow well enough even in soft white light (it just won't look as nice). As long as you're not using actinic or blacklight tubes, your plants will grow.

FLourish Excel is liquid carbon and a subsitute for CO2. Its used to compliment Flourish, which adds trace nutrients like iron and phosphates to the water. It'd be a pretty expensive alternative to CO2 injection as you'll need to dose pretty regularly to have the same benefits as CO2 injection.
