FYI: Just moved my Red Ludwiga from my 20G to my 40G with the same lightening (2 wpg) on Sunday and the plant has taken off! The only difference between the two tanks is the sea salt added to the 20G for the gobies. I didn't add more than 1 teaspoon per galloon, but the plant DID NOT like it.

I just thought I would post and say that if you are adding salt to your tank and having problems with the ludwiga that may be the problem. No other plants in the tank seem to be so sensitive (moneywart, amazons, aponogen, water lily, etc). :dive:

Well that explains why red ludwigia gave up the ghost where as the rest of the plants were fine, thanks

I tell you...I put that plant in the big tank expecting it to go South--it was in the other tank for 4 months and looked like it was always going to die! It looks like a catalog plant after only 4 days...the only difference it the little bit of salt and the extra gallons and the pure FW vs. FW with sea salt.

It just goes to show that plants (just like fish) flourish in only some such environments!
