Hi guys,

Just thought i'd join up to share in this community.

From Calgary, Alberta, Canada and this is my setup:

72 gal freshwater
Eheim filter (can't remember model #, its for a 150 gal tank)

I 'inherited' the tank, stand, filter, heater, etc from my girlfriends sister, as we now sort of own the duplex she was living in and she didn't want to go through the hassle of moving it.

The tank had a handful of tetras and a 4" loach in it when we moved in. I hadn't had a tank in about 10 years, and didn't know about water changes. The sister only did them every 6 months :duh: . Needless to say, everything slowly started dying off, leaving the loach and one hell of a hardy red tetra left.

Did some research, and started doing a weekly 30% change. Once the tank was clear, test kits came back well and had new media in the filter, bought 12 zebra danios, 12 head and tail light tetras, and 3 bronze corys. I figured if i lost fish, at least they were cheap ones.

1 week later, add a blue male beta that was in a tank with a red beta (with a separater). He's pretty happy in there, and the other fish usually leave him alone.

(been doing a weekly 25% change since all the fish went in)

Went on holiday about a month ago and lost 1 zebra in the process.

Recently added 3 south american puffers, 1 yellow cichlid (not sure if its an 'electric yellow', no stripes) and a highfin spotted pleco.

I figured by this point, i'd be buying a 33 to put the puffers in but amazingly, all the fish get along very well :y220e: especially for fish that other aquarists told me COULDN'T get along. I talked extensively to my local fish store about the setup, and they agreed to take fish back if they became too agressive towards the tetras (namely the puffers and cichlid). the head and tail lights beat up on the puffers for a little while, but now the fish are schooled and all seem to get along. The puffers have no interest in the flowing fins on the beta (much to my shock as i thought it'd be back in with a divider in the 10 with the other).

So, this will be my setup going forward. I'd like to do some real plants and upside down cats in about a month, and possibly pick up a 33 to do a brackish setup in. The big tank may get a breeding pair of electric yellows, and i'm thinking of converting the 10 gal to a salamander tank and grow tank for feeder snails for the puffers

Any tips on photographing the tank? can't seem to get very good shots. thanks guys!

almost forgot, the school of danios adopted the smallest puffer and happily schools with it. weird, but kinda cool
