New member with sick fish.

Well it happened.

This morning at 7:10am I found my JD had died. I had to run so I removed him from his tank, and put him in a bowl with some water and went to work.

I did not have much time to examine the other fish. Any thoughts about continuing the treatment of Maracyns to the tank for the sake of the others?

Sorry to hear about your loss... I am not sure what else to do.. looking at your picture it did seem like the bloat was issue.... I just read somewhere else to use Metronidazole and dissolve that... So overall I guess various medications but its a hit or miss.....

Check how the other fishes are... and hopefully things get better...

I would continue the med's for now just to make sure everything clears out of the tank. As long as you have started you may as well finish its kind of like human antibiotics if you stop early the infection will sometimes come back worse. Just keep a good eye on the rest of them hopefully they will pull though. You may want to see if you can get the convict to eat some fresh garlic. It is great at killing off internal parasites.

I have read about feeding garlic to fishes.. how does that work? Just take the regular garlic? I have also heard about Garlic Guard? How exactly does this work? Do you soak the fish food in it and give?

Any drawbacks?

Thanks!

I have discontinued medicating the tank and all seems well. The Convict seems to have had its spot clear up and the Pleco never showed any signs. The tanks has been stable for a few days except for the power vacuum, but it isnt too bad.

I am a little concerned about a 40 gallon breeder tank with only two fish and one of which is pretty unexciting (pleco). I figure I should give it some time still to get everything settled but I was considering introducing another fish into the tank.
