New Neons dying fast

I was thinking culumnaris but the only descriptions I had seen were a fuzzy fungus look so was not sure. Have some maracyn and started treatment last night will get MII and start it today all fish in tank look good today the second tetra died last night so maybe I will get lucky and the rest will be ok.

Neon are imported from SE Asia since cheaper than wild ones. I dont know any who imports wild neons anymore. Cost INEFFECTIVE and plus, Neons out of SE Asia are pretty well shipped.
On the other hand, cardinals are imported from wild as far as I know.
When compared the mortality or rate of experiencing possible NTD, I had higher chance of having problem with Cardinals out of Wild than captive bred from SE Asia.

As far as TDS, yes it is important topics but when one understand how most these ionic balances are achieved in fish physiology (exchanges thru gill; both respiratory and excretory function), one can not just ignore the importance of pH.

No argument that fish can ajust/adapt to wide range of pH but when exposed to abrupt changes in pH, it can have very ill effexct on gill which will, of course, have an effect on their repiratory/excretory functions. I am sure we all knows that TDS and pH are related and I dont really want to make any more complicated than as is by going in detail. Anyone interested in detail, look up Chem 101 Textbook. Should have most of the answers one need for comprehending basic water chemistry.
But let's just say that when gill cant function properly (cant consume/release or excrete), ionic balances of fish metabolism (and TDS) is secondary.

As lot many you may have experienced, one may not lose any or all or some new fish from time to time. I do know it could be bad batch or it could also be bad practice of acclimating procedures.

Just think of that as we all are different with different medical history/needs. Some can tolerate beeter than others, whatever it may be.

Why not fish? Some may tolerate better than others. Once I realized this facts and practice a habit of accomodating each species of fish to their need (AS CLOSE AS i CAN PREPARE), I tend to have less losses/implicationS.
Even took months to acclimate new fish, especially from wild when the conditions (pH, hardness) were extremely different. Such patience and practice yielded higher rate of survival and spawning activities.

It does not matter to me how one introduce/acclimate new fish, but hoping that someone can use my thoughts in case of constant losses of new additions.
 
I've read on The Internets that Maracyn I and II are toxic to snails, so if you have beneficial snails you'll probably want to use KanaPlex (kanamycin), instead. I have no personal experience with the Maracyns, but I've successfully used KanaPlex to treat columnaris in a tank containing several types of snails (and ghost shrimp), and none of them seemed to notice it at all. Maracyn Plus is also purported to be safe for snails, but I don't know if it works on columnaris.
 
Just a quick update. After 6 days of maracyn and maracyn II no one else has become infected so hopefully things will be good. Thanks for the responses and help. As for the snails all that was in there was pond snails and I did not want them so am not to worried but I did see a couple 4 days into the treatment so odds are they are still there. One thing I have noticed is after using maracyn my plants start growing extra well.
 
I have used Maracyn and Maracyn II combined but never with snails. I found they do work for many early stage problems. I use a hosp/qt tank instead. When dealing with parasitic infections I have found nothing better than salt or fenbenzadol. (Just the way things worked for me.)
 
It sounds like you are getting things under control with the two Maracyns. I have used them successfully many times. Keep up the clean water and treatment. I went ten days with the antibiotic treatment to insure a total cure.

Quick update since i forgot to come back.

Thanks for all the good info everyone that was alive when i started treatment is still doing fine including all the snails.

Man.. Cluunox, I'm just delighted you had success and your fish are better, and Negativelogic, I'm so glad you were able to find the info in this thread helpful in your own case of illness in your fish.

It's wonderful to read about successes in treating sick fish.
