I got an Oscar yesterday and put him in my 30gal long tank (temp). Since i got him, he has been hanging out at the bottom alonst just laying there. Looks as though he is dying - leaning against things and moving kinda slow. I read thru some old posts on here about new Oscars doing this for the first few days and then they come around so I'm not too worried yet.

The good news is that when i would drop a few pellets in front of him, he would eat them. Hopefully he will snap out of it today or tomorrow.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

My O was the same way for the first few days after i brought him home, i just left him alone and within no time he was swimming to the side of the tank every time it saw me.

I have had the same experience with oscars..they are actually big, wussy prima donnas..hehe..but i love em! Eating is always a good sign..he'll warm up to his new home in a few! Enjoy!

Totally natural behaviour for a Oscar.
They can pout and have mood swings to match any pubescent teenage girl!
This can last for days as your O gets used to his surroundings, but he'll come around, and as said his feeding is a good sign.
Just wait till you clean his tank, re-arrange decor or have to net'em...
Pouting and temper tantrums will be the order of the day(s).

Have fun with your new O, they are so cool -n- interactive!

Is he in there by himself? If so it may take him a little while to get used to his new enviroment. I have had a few oscars do exactly what you are saying and when another fish is introduced the competition for food is too much to bear and the oscar will try to beat everyone to the food. Make sure you keep the water clean with regular water changes and gravel vacs.

I have a small (2 inch) Dempsey in with him. The oscar is 2x as big as the Dempsey and the Dempsey is not picking on him, if anything, they are getting along pretty well.

You know you will need a 75g tank to house them in a few months times, correct?

*Sorry, only just realized the "(temp)" in the OP...

Check the temp. my O's get very lathagic when they are hot. If the temp is ok and he contiues to eat I would worry too much. You could alo try keeping the light off for a few days.

CAN U PUT 1 TIGER OSCAR WITH 2 AFRICAN CICHLIDS

No.
