New Petsmart... shock and happiness.

I asked this very thing of the new Petsmart I've been to. I wanted an Ehime filter and they don't carry those in the stores. They just said they don't do special orders because they'd have to order a bunch and also they aren't on the list of stuff they can order.
Sounds lame.

Lol, the video is crap because it shows a bunch of abbused hamsters, gerbils, etc.?

Anyway, I didnt mean ALL petsmarts and petcos, theres just many of them that are bad, not NEAR to all, prolly not even half, but there are deffinetly some "walmart bad" ones out there

first of all, that video was made by PETA. once that comes up, the credability goes down the drain. why? they blow everything out of proportion and extremely stretch the truth until it is almost unfathomable.

second, when animals are crowded together, disease spreads. it happens with humans also. why do you think they are so worried about airbourne viruses like the Avian Flu and SARS? wet tail is extremely contagious, and will easily spread to uninfected gerbils and hamsters in their carriers while they are being shipped. if one has it, then they all have a pretty high risk of getting it themselves.

back on topic... glad to hear that your petmsart is good. the one near me is always kept very clean, and is a pretty good place to go. around me there is just the standard stocking of fish, like any other petsmart. occasionally, there will be some sengal or even ornate bichirs available, and they got for about $40.

True, our petsmart seems very limited on selection. Even the brand they carry will only be one or two choices, vice the whole line. They readily say they will order it, but I can do that myself on line for a better price.

most petsmarts carry the same merch. we've never carried eheims in the almost three years i've worked with the company. if you look around at most of the newer petsmarts, we're shrinking! we're staying away from the older, larger warehouse version of our stores and trying to look more retail and shopper friendly. while doing this, we are loosing space and can only care certain things.

it's true, we do not do special orders... but it's simply because we just can't. there's no way to do it. we can't contact anyone or use our computers to order it. it's just not possible. petsmart.com and petsmart stores are kinda considered separate companies, and we can not just give you everything that we offer online. we have separate distributions and stuff. plus, stores can only really order things that we are set on our plan-o-gams (are given space on shelves)... including fish.

sorry, just wanted to clear that up so that you don't think we're all just being jerks. when it is possible to get something, i assure you the managers will go get it for you... why would they want to loose a sale?? our bonuses are based on sales! lol...

i would just order online... i think that's the point of the petsmart.com. to offer the things that aren't super popular in our stores and stuff we don't carry at somewhat reasonable prices.

Oh, no real complaint here. I understand the stocking issue and need to carry the basics and common needs. Just wish I had a store near me like the Animal Jungle in Virginia Beach.
