New pics minus the hair algae... er, I mean, most of the algae is gone

Thank you all very much. I am really happy with it right now and I am in the process of getting things locked down with epoxy now that I know the flow is going to work the way that I want.

As for how I got rid of the algae I did several things. First I started dosing with AlgaeFix Marine (1.75ml every three days). Then i used hemostats to pull the dead/dying algae out (after each pull I dip the hemostats in fresh water to make sure no new filamnets are reintroduced. And, third, I removed two small pieces of liverock that seemed to be the ground zero for growth. That accomplished two things (1) it got rid of main source of the spreading algae and (2) it opened up a dead area and allowed flow to areas of the tank that were not doing well. All in all it seems to have worked. I continue to pull dead algae out.

But once I got the algae gone the coralline started appearing overnight. First one spot on the back, not there are about 15 spots and some are developing on the powerheads and lockline. I am very excited about that.

Absolutely stunning!

my problem was i had a rock that had thos littly apastais (sp) thing one it so i boiled it and cleaned it and returned it and that rock is growing the algea and it spread,..

Try the AlgaeFix Marine, it really does do a good job of getting things manageable. I don't think I am going to use it for maintenance, but to get it under control it worked great. Now the lawnmower has just enough and can keep up with the growth. Before I started using it, there was no way that one fish could eat that much salad. I'll admit I was skeptical at first, but I read a lot of reviews and all concluded that it worked. So I gave it a try, followed the directions very carefully and viola, it worked.

Do you think your issue was related to the die off from boiling the liverock increasing the nitrate/phosphates in your water? Hope you can get it gone.

i really thing that one rock being dead was inhabitable to the normal marine stuff so algea either didn't die,(it had algea with it when bought, but i didn't notice till i got home,..) or
just got a hold on, also it was a piece that a owner returned from their tank do to closing their tank,.. and i thought it was just a good piece of rock from the ocean,.lol silly me,..

no nitrates showing, but since i got my blenny he beggs for food and eats from my hand and i can't stop playing with him,.. so i have extra food in here now and that is making the phosphates go wild, plus i'm out of phosaban,.. and broke now,...lol so its getting outa hand again,..
have a turbo and he eats the algea but it grows more than i can get them to keep up with,..lol now my tank is getting redslime because of overfeeding and lack of phosaban,.. but had issues with my clown and tried to add my redslime remover and t almost killed my clown he went back into the hospital tank till done but it didn't work this time,..

i have to get things arranged,.. how can you refuse a blennie begging to be fed? and him eating out of your hand??
i can't,.. i have to figure out something for him to eat that dosen't hleave phosphates,..lol
i have cleaners,.. and snails,. also but still,.. and cheato in the fudge (hob), did have calupra in dt but have ripped it out hoping the clown will do better,.. not sure whats up with him,..

Wow, you've come a long way. You should be very proud of that tank. Looks like it is well on its way--give it a bit longer to grow in and submit it for TOTM.

Thank you very much. It is hard to believe that this iteration has only been running for a month. But I think things are looking good at this point and the stuff that is supposed to grow is growin and the stuff that ain't isn't. I am very excited about seeing the coralline as I at least know that I am keeping my water somewhere near where it should be (actually, I test every day or two to make sure I am staying in the ball park).

wow DSR, your clams are mind blowing im so jealous! great tank man you should be proud!
