Is this true clown loach behavior, or is this a fear response? My clown loaches do not always play nice.

If it was out of fear they would all be cowering at the back of the aquarium swimming back and forth trying to get away from NEO. All of those dats and other fish also probably act as dithers to the clowns so I don't think they're afraid at all.

Some people play by the "rules" and some don't. That's all it is. As long as the fish are healthy and his filtration is more than ample IMO it's ok. It's not like the fish have outgrown the footprint of the glass box and he's using a whisper hob to filter it..

That said, nice clowns!
