New planted tank, looking for advice

IIRC, white ribon plants are not aquatic. they will slowly rot under water. Put it back in its tube and return it.

FYI never EVER buy plants in a TUBE, that is unless you like to waste presious money and see things DIE

Found shells at a craft store for 1.00 a dozen so I'm set in the shell department, but thanks for the suggestions jason and thrak.

A new problem has developed though, I got my fllourite sand yesterday and switched out the gravel, and when I added the flourite the tank went brown. I turned off the filter to let it settle faster, but today tha water's still murky brown. wondering, If I leave my filter off will my bacteria colony die? its still submerged, just no running water. and if I turn it back on will it burn out trying to filter all this brown junk out of the water?

I did return those ribbon plants though, and petsmart gave me a refund without argument. seems kind of dumb to put aquatic and non aquatic plants in the same container in the aquarium section of the store...whatever petsmart.

Occies are too big for a 10g. The only shellies I'd put in that small of a tank are the multies. And zebra danios with shellies is a bad idea, the shellies are aggressive little fish. I have my shellie tank plants with anubias, they do move the substrate around but the anubias are strapped to holey rock so no problem with them staying in place.
