I have been having all sorts of algae problems and have decided to get rid of my plants. Now that I know about reducing the time the lights are on, amount of light and also correct dosage of ferts I am ready to do this properly. Let's hope my eBay purchase of plants are good ( as they usually are amazing)

did all your previous plants die? or were they too far gone? What is your set up?

Some knowledge that i wish i new when i was first setting up my high tech planted tank was to put as many plants in that sucker so that it's filled to the brim. Then once things start to balance out and you're getting good growth remove the plants you don't want.

What size tank???

its a 63 gallon, just taken all the old plants out and I am now going to do my weekly water change and plant the plants after that :) The plants were alive but they were getting worse and slowly dying so now I wanted to get new ones that I could look after properly. Wish me luck!!

Good Luck!!

What kind of lights do you have?? How long are they on??

One Power-Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Tube 40W 106.68cm (42in) T8
One Aqua-Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Tube 40W 106.68cm (42in) T8

the lights are on from 6pm till 11pm. But it does get a small amount of light through the day as its in a bright room.

Next time, leave the lights on for about 8 hrs instead. You might be starving them of light, do you dose nutrients or fertilize?
