New project: Seagrass/Seahorse tank

OK, the grasses are growing, except that the ones that are getting eaten by a mystery herbivore. I have set up a meeting and am heading to Baltimore tomorrow morning to get my horsies at Draco. After adding some gorgonian frags, and a sea blade colony for hitching posts, here's what the tank looks like tonight.

ooh, nice tank, they'll love that center piece. I actually went to a nicer lfs in my area and was surprised to find seahorses there. They were big enough to fit in the palm of your hand, lighte yellow with little black dots. They must've been the barbouri(sp?) species. They were captive bred. They had them in a small tank with some coral, a small goby, and some inverts.

Most in there were holding on something, but one was near the top getting pushed around by a current and he couldn't get hold on anything. I then noticed his color slowly changing to black on the edges. So, I brought it up to someone there that he was getting knocked around a bit, this person said it was fine.

The guy was a younger worker there, and looked a little inexperienced, so maybe that was why. But I just hope the manager noticed the problem and fixed it. Felt sorry for it, thinking back, I wish I had stuck my hand in there when no one was looking and help it get hold of some coral in there.~Angela

I'm considering an Australian seahorse like Barbouri (available from a breeder here) and Australian banded pipefish. I thnk this will work as there are breeders located in Ontario.
I don't know how I missed seeing this before as I've gone over this thread many times before.
Two things; I've been looking for H. Barbouri for some time now and haven't had any luck so far. Does this Quebec breeder of Barbouris sell out of province? (I'm in London Ontario)
Also, does the reference to breeders located in Ontario, refer to the Australian banded pipefish or to the Barbouris?

The first seahorses were added in October with another pair and a pair of banded pipefish added in November. (lost one banded)
The only macro at this time is some grape caulerpa sitting at the tip of the left side plastic plant.

I wonder if you put a black background on the tank if that would help to hide it some ??
There would still be the butt-ugly skimmer powerhead, unfortunately. I kind of like to look through and see the fuge, too.

By the way, the SHs are in, a couple of big, spiky erectus. Spent yesterday decimating my amphipod population. I have photos, just need a little time to resize and upload.

Rayjay, I love the pipes. The flagtails are so pretty.
