I was drilling the back. I was going slow and everything so my guess was that the glass was tempered. I drilled the aqueon tanks today with no issues. So I'll be returning the walmart tanks that I have left and going to Petco and get them to match the price from walmart. The aqueons are not tempered.

Probubly a combination of liability for Walmart as tempered is safer, and in some cases cheaper if the tampered glass is thinner to cut down on shipping weight. Technically by law they are suppose to emboss every piece of tempered glass used.

It wasn't. So I got me 2 new tanks and some pvc fittings.

usually, IME, only the bottom is marked if tempered...on commercially mass produced tanks.

That's what I thought also. Well lesson learned. Regent tanks from Walmart are Tempered Glass all the way around. c:

Hay just for general info see if you can recall if the glass on the Regent tank that broke was noticeably thinner then on the same size Aqueons replacement tank.

They are the same thickness. On the 20l the glass is thicker but the 10's is the same. Hey Gunner quick ? the turtle wax rubbing compound did you use it on the inside too?

Sorry the slow response just saw this post but yes inside and outside on 2 tanks so far and its never hurt a fish. But with your new tanks you don't need it.
