New Project

I don't know where you squids get it? How long ago did they stop buildin' wooden war ships? The best cabinet maker I know was a Navy man (Fletcher class can) and my mentor in the trades was an old Seabee. Now you and Gunner. The last piece of wood I saw on a navy boat were the toothpicks in the officers mess and an old spud locker.

Since it's obvious that you're good workin' with the wood here's a great place to tell Mama to go Xmas shopping for ya.

I build Euro style cabinets in the field using their plunge cut saw/ guide system and hole drilling jig. Very pricey stuff but the quality is tops. Their driver drill is absolutely fantastic. Stop by a WoodCraft store if ya get a chance and try one on. Most of them have demo tools set out and they are an eye opener.

Beautiful job. What's the finish plan?

I'm new to the boards and just stumbled upon this! I've had a great time reading the whole thread. I think you're doing an amazing job. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Well thanks to all. When I was in the USS John F. Kennedy my last year I was on the Carpentry Shop. It is awesome all the things you can do with wood and the awesome results. Well the Finishing will be Polyshades with a little of details on front.

So here is the story short version while working yesterday on the stand I sneezed 3 times on the last one I felt a weird pain on my Adams apple on the left side and pain on my throat. In less than 2 mins my voice was hoarse and then gone in the first 5 mins after the sneeze. So around 730pm I still have this weird pain and scratchy throat and went to the pc and

and found that there has been cases where just by a sneeze you can punture your esophagus and break the trachea's cartilage.

so got someone to take care the kids and went to the Naval Hospital's ER with the wife(Really worried) after I told the nurse she look like what?

yeap so Xrays and went straight into a bed no waiting. So saw the DOC and he said I talk to ENT and we gonna put a camera down your nose and see what we can find.

The Dr at these time is like you whinny guy are wasting my time with a scratchy throat attitude with me trying to confuse me with the location of the pain. Then after he saw the vocal cords he found a Hematoma on my right vocal cords. Whet to my bed and after that he came back in a total different attitude. Like Wow I can't belive that happen just with a sneeze. So got a shot of anti-inflammatory then got some drugs and an appointment to see an ENT Dr. today at noon. Well after another session of camera down my nose the Dr. sent me to get a CAT Scan and went back to the treatment room on ENT department. Is about 330pm now and then the Dr. comes and tell me and the wife you may wanna come with me to my office and says you broke your Trachea's Cartilage almost in half.

What my reaction. His words were followed by you can't talk in 2 weeks. What? Just 12 hours without talking and is nuts imagine 2 weeks. If is not healed in that time I need surgery to get a plate on my throat and is not an easy surgery. Wow all this for 3 sneeze. These sucks.

wow. That sucks big time. Hope you get better w/o surgery!

So alright , scratch the Festool goodies for Xmas, Mama needs to buy her baby boy a friggin respirator.

And for gosh sakes wear one when you're finishing. I was poisoned at work by a combination of solvent fumes and material dust. Turns out I'd been breathing Toluene, Hexane, Butane, Benzine, and a bunch of other crap including lead, mercury, cadmium and antimony dust and vapors. I started coughing one day and couldn't stop...thought I had cancer. A day later I'm spraying contact cement and start coughing blood and some other nasty looking stuff. Now I can't be any where near any of it. Please be careful and read the labels and MSDS for everything that you use, especially after you get better from this.

I've seen guys throw their backs out sneezin' but blowin' a hole in your cartilage? That just plain sucks. Be careful and get well soon.

I was expecting to see a progress report on your project. So sorry to hear what happened shipmate and Ill be sure to include you in my prayers. After your story Ill be thinking twice before I let go a sneeze which I usually suppress to keep the cats from spooking. And definitely no more outside farmer blows for me. Take care

Hey at least you got a Doc! All we got in the Bubblehead Navy were Corpsman... I.E. Butchers... *LOL* Keep a steady course, keep the powder dry, mind your helm and we, (my Mrs. and I pray for your quick healing!)

Thanks guys. Well About the respirators I wear one and I don't do any staining or finishing with or without chemicals inside my garage just because of the fumes. Bad stuff. I've never had asthma in my life till a year ago a golf cart in the building I work got caught on fire and I was on watch and trying to put the fire out and/or keeping it from spreading I inhaled CO2 and bunch of chemicals that were on the cart. Not to mention that aluminum is toxic. The entire thing melted before the Fire Dept got there. I used 5 bottles and did nothing to the fire. Gotta tell you that been in the military sucks these people didn't want me to take the 16 days off that the ENT Doctor recommended they only gave me 4 days and have the Dr. contact them. How messed up is this? Can't talk and then uncle SAM stave you in the back like always.
