New puppy! Bernese mountain dog

Thanks guys. He is sleeping in my lap. He sleeps like 18 hours a day lol

Oh man, who would have though I needed a puppy instead of a kitten for the cuddle factor... LOL *envy*

Beautiful boy, congrats and thank you for buying from a good breeder(and not some nasty BYB)... If you want to stud him out, get his hips/elbows/heart certified, and have a rigorous health check for ANY disease. If you plan on studding him out, at least get him some titles, herding, showing ect. The best time to check for health issues is around 2, according to big dog breeders.
Prove he is worth breeding and if he is, go for it, but make sure the ***** is just as good as he is in every way.

Some quotes from BMD info:
About 6-8 years. The average lifespan of the Bernese has decreased in recent years from 10-12 yrs to 6-8 yrs. The BMD Club of America did a health survey in 2000 with 1,322 dogs. The average age of death was 7.2 yrs. Cancer is unfortunately a very large part of the Berner world and many Berners die young. One source states "I know of several that died of cancer at 3-4 yrs old and one that died two days before his 2nd birthday. The BMD Club of America is aggressively researching this cancer issue! We must see if we can end this sad situation."
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a very hardy breed, but beware of hip and elbow dysplasia. Also prone to cancer, bloat and eyelid problems.

Again, he's a very nice little boy... And you won't have to worry about his future in breeding for years to come if you go by it the right way. Enjoy him while he's able to be picked up.

aww lil buddy.

Darn he's cute. They are such nice dogs. I rarely see them (which is often a good thing since popularity ruins a breed).

I've got a question about his nose color. Is the pink allowed in the standard? i'm not that familiar with the breed standard for them.

He's really cute. Keep us updated with pictures so we can live vicariously through your puppy experience.

I really want a puppy but with three small kids...I just can't give a dog what it needs. Actually, this desire that I can't ethically fulfill right now is what prompted me to get into fish. The fish don't need socializing, regular walks and training. LOL

Thanks everyone! And yeah the pink on his nose goes away. He has a perfect white cross on his chest and a white tip on his tale. Pretty neat all things I never would have thought of. I kind of bought him on a whim I told my mom about how I saw one on google when I was screwing around and she hooked me up with THE MAN. He is from Sonora. Guy named Ken great breeder.

I just remembered this. I lived in Colorado for a year (1994) and I went to a Christmas parade in Parker, south of Denver if I remember right. There was a whole team of BMDs all harnessed and pulling carts. They were quite a sight. There must have been 15 of them.

They are working dogs and it does them good both physically and mentally to have a job to do.
