I just picked up a pair of blue rams today (and a nice sword)! And since I've been coveting and looking forward to them for almost two months I was doomed to make a mistake.

The cup I was acclimating them in got dumped into a tank with 2ppm nitrites. :( Doing two 25% water changes, hopefully they will survive!

Edit: I've drained 7 gallons out so far and they're beginning to venture out... maybe they'll be tough! I hope so.

Pictures soon.

Look forward to seeing the rams! :)

2 ppm nitrites is quite high, so I would be very careful in the amount of feeding and do A LOT of water changes. I'm sure you are aware of this already though.

I'm just lax on water changes in that tank since it should be finished with it's mini-cycle in a day or two and all the fish that were in it are pretty hardy (serpea and cory cats). If I did a 10% change every day it would register 0ppm for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite, but I havn't been home a lot so I don't think I've changed water in the last three days (girlfriend got her wisdom teeth pulled so I've been playing doctor). I'm going to cut feeding to one shrimp pellet and a small pinch of flakes once a day for the next week.

At least my new pretty plant will survive this ordeal.

Okay, the water is now pristine and they seem to be doing okay...ish. The male will venture out but is easily spooked... I saw them both sort of creeping along around the arachnis-type plant, but they retreated behind the rocks.

Since they were shocked and dumped into the water I'm going to start bi or tri-daily water changes to keep the water as clear as possible.

I'm going to feed a few bloodworms and see if they will eat for me.

Anyway, pictures!

I'll get more pictures later. Just wanted show them and my new plant off

Me -> :eek:

:D The male just ate a good amount of bloodworm and is now normally colored (no bars). The female is still showing stress bars, but she's becoming less and less timid. Hopefully she'll eat tomorrow.
