New rusty cichlid

it may take a little bit to see its true colors. fish do not usually fully color up when they are first introduced to a tank

Yea the rusty is showing alittle more agression. More like a typical cichlid now. It roames around the tank briskly and goes back to its rock.

I GOT ONE RUSTY LEFT FOR SIX I BOUGHT AS FRY AND HE HAS AN EGG SPOT ON HIS FIN AM I RIGHT TO BELIEVE HE IS MALE CUZ OF THE EGG SPOT?

Could be a female, my rusty started showing the blue sheen around 1.5"-2" and you could really see it at 2.5"-3". Fish it out flip it and look at the vent, sure fire way to sex your mbuna.

Also eggspots are not the greatest sex indicator, because some females get them too.

I was actually talking about the op's fish, yours seems to have the violet sheen that males get (even though the pic is a little too blurry).

hey vanpudin for that size i will step out on a limb and say possibly a female but like everyone else stated you wont know for sure unless you add more rusty's and or getting settled in your system here is a nice photo i pulled off the web of what looks like a very attractive male rusty
