new saltwater reef

fish and inverts. I was looking for a local one here they only want to sell kits with tank, heater, filter, crappy stand, cheap light and want over 400 dollars locally for this on a 55.
I don't want a glass hearter from what I have read pertaining to reef, nor the hood with light that they are including. I just know that I am having all sorts of trouble finding stuff here for a reasonable price.

I may just make one myself. Or buy the walmart one which is closer to a reasonable price for a 55 gallon tank with a hood with seperate light piece I think.

Johnny,
Problem with REEF tanks is that they are Very expensive. I am currently running a newly setup 75 gallon tank and have spent to close to a grand already. That has counted buying a used 400 watt MH lighting system, along with live rock, sand, salt and other minor items. You can cut costs by looking around and buying used equipment and ordering online. You can do a tank cheaper by buying PC lights but the cost will soon to add up. But I will say this, buy a good set of lights, they will treat you very well and last a long time. The best PC lights I have tested out there, and I have tried many brands, the ones that have lasted the longest over 4 years is Custom Sea Life. They have some nice sets for about $200 plus for a 55 or 75 gallon setups.
Good luck
