Here's the shrimp tank I set up for the kids this week. It's a 10g, Flourite substrate with some Java ferns, Java moss and an African fern.

I got some yellow shrimp and an olive nerite from msjinkzd and it arrived on my daughter's birthday. She loves the tank and watching the shrimp as she goes to sleep.

The shrimp have settled in now. The first day and a half or so they were just running around on the bottom all along the glass. They're actually hiding out in the plants and rocks now.

I may add some shrimp friendly fish in the future but for now I want to see the shrimp multiply (once they grow up).

Here's a closeup of one of the little shrimp.

I do have a couple of questions about this shrimp/snail tank.

1. Does it need a water change schedule similar to a fish tank? Like once a week?
2. When the shrimp molt should I remove the discarded shells or leave them in there?
3. Do I need to provide anything special for the single nerite snail? I mean things like calcium, etc.
4. Anything else I need to do which is different from fish tank care?

I do a 20% change once every 2 weeks. Water change does encourage shrimps to molt.

You don't need to remove them. But if you don't like the molt you can remove it.

watch out for chemical treatments, because shrimps are very sensitive.

um...i guess that is about it.

I'm very new to the hobby so I am learning a lot. I also got shrimp (cherry) and nerites from Msjinkz. They are doing great! The nerites are really algae eating machines! If it's a new tank and there's not much algae growth, I think they will need algae wafers. I feed my tank Hikari Sinking Wafers and the shrimp and snails eat them up!

1. Does it need a water change schedule similar to a fish tank? Like once a week? I do 50% weekly, most do not do this much but I am a wc junkie.
2. When the shrimp molt should I remove the discarded shells or leave them in there?leave them, they will eat them.
3. Do I need to provide anything special for the single nerite snail? I mean things like calcium, etc. They need hard water to protect their shell health and eat algae. The olives are easy to supplement as they are not as picky as some other nerites. I sometimes drop calcium pills, cuttlebone, or vacation feederes in my snail tanks to buffer and add calcium
4. Anything else I need to do which is different from fish tank care?
Nope, looks like your tank is a very nice set up for them. Be cautious to not overfeed and enjoy them! Its looking really good :)
