ok, so I can't take the skimmer that came with the tank my sister unloaded on me, it was called a "skilter" and was loud, made noises I can't explain nor understand...... my sister used to just block the air hose..... but I didn't see that as viable. I'm not really sure if she broke it with doing that but I do know that after having the tank in my house for a month, I've never once had to empty the cup...... it never seems to fill even a hair more than condensation so I'm not even sure it's working. So, with the advice of T, I ordered a new skimmer (Remora) and will be getting a couple AC70's for the LR by the weekend and things will be on the way to a better tank. The original setup of this tank was in poor shape but I'm bringing it into recovery and learning so much. Some people say SW is so much more difficult than FW, I'm finding that the level doesn't lie in the factor of difficulty here, it's just that there are different things that need to be done for a SW. If I were to have my choice, I'm dipping into the salty end 
I can definitely relate with that, but having 20+ years under my belt in FW, and a start on the SW from my sister, thankfully I was/am well aware of the whole rush factor as well as the buying before investigating thing..... I guess I am in better shape than some beginners..... the fish are a little more pricey to be making mistakes with in SW too though.... I have noticed that....
