New SW setup, newbie too

beautiful tank man. I hope mine makes as good progress when its setup.

Thanks, it's coming along nice only to be ripped apart for the new tank sometime in the next few months... but it's a learning experience and I've already found myself to be far less paranoid with each new thing I do.

LFS has some new coral, hopefully they have the brain I have been looking for. The coralline algae is growing a lot on the glass and it's spreading a good amount on the rocks. They tested my water and said my KH is a little low, but that is from the coralline growth, he advised against dosing and recommended to keep up with my weekly water changes until I can test & understand these things a little bit more myself.

I went on a spending spree this week.

Picked up a fist size Maze Brain, Spiderman Red Zoa frag, it has about 12 polyps on it, I asked how much it was and said it was free ;) some orange zoa and a large rock covered with green zoa's.

Picked up some of the purple seaweed & garlic extract and have been feeding the tang a combination of this & pellets.

I've also hooked up my UV Sterilizer for preventative measures.

So my coral stocking looks like this:

Toadstool mushrom
Green tipped torch
Pink tipped torch
Green eye zoa Frag
Large orange eye zoa
Spiderman Red zoa frag
Large green zoa rock
3 Kenya tree's
1 Purple mushroom
Small Favia Brain frag
Maze Brain
Fingernail sized Frogspawn frag
1 large unknown coral
1 small unknown frag (I forgot their names...sorry)
1 mixed zoa frag
Yellow polyps that have split 4 times in 4ish weeks

Hopefully all of these corals continue to do well and take hold for when I switch to the new tank. The next investment will likely be the reefmaster test kit, followed by the protein skimmer (typhoon or terminator). I want to get familiar with the reefmaster test kit and start taking care of the dosing for keeping things under better control between water changes & once the skimmer gets installed.

Lost a head on the 'pink' Torch, it didn't look too good from the LFS...it looked okay and appeared to be doing better but overnight it died. The other 4 heads on the piece are still doing good.

Dan,

Pictures MAN Pictures. :D

I know how you feel, I bought a sponge and it arrived looking ok but started melting away. I've since relocated it to a darker part of the tank and good water flow and it MAY make it yet. All I can do is wait and see.

Good luck with the rest of the heads.

They seem to be doing just fine, one of the 3 remaining Kenya tree's doesn't appear to be doing too well. It closed up a week ago, one 'branch' turned brown, I clipped it as soon as I saw it, I noticed some of the polyps on it are turning that dark brown color. The LFS tested my water and said all is well.

I trimmed the sick looking branch off the small Kenya tree, within hours of doing so, it stood back up and the rest of the branches & polyps came back to life. Phew... I was starting to get worried!

Here are some new pictures...
