Planning to start my first salt water tank and i wanted to know how much i have all the equipment because i bought the whole set up from some one who had it set up for salt water but all i have is the equipment and some live sand i need live rock and wanted to know what is the right amount for a 90g tall tank. also if any one can i would like to pick you brain about the equipment i got and if i should upgrade or use it
List everything you bought here along with what your plans are for the tank. If you are wanting the live rock to be your filter you'll want 90-180 #s of it.
i got 2 marineland 350 canister filters a turbo twist 3x uv sterilizer a protein scimmer a refusium mud water cleaner (but not sure about this item it had the mud and some round ballsin it looked like sand was tan and black and has a sink attachment on it) also got 2 powerheads and a k-2 viper lamp she told me it was to grow coral
the marineland 350 is designed to follow 350 gal per hr im told ideal for 100 g tank and i have 2 units. the uv ster. is called a TURBO TWIST 3X its a 9 watt unit its to be effective for a 125 g tank the protein scimmer cant tell u much more long round set of 3 tubes stacked inside one another about 3 inches in dia and 2 feet long havent the sightest clue about the refusium filter thing and the power heads are a maxi flow 1200 model and lastly the k-2 viper light is rated at 150watts thats all i know she sold the whole outfit to me broken down she was moving to cali and i have no way to contact her but i have filled the tank and it holds water so thats one good thing so far
the plan for the tank is to place some ???# fiji live rock into tank an assortment aprox 4 anenommies, 3-4 clowns (not sure it if i want real or tomato), i want a set of 3 pipefish, and 2 or 3 pairs of seahorses, along with a few assorted shrimp for food and cleaning as well as a few sea stars and cleaning snails. also will be putting assortment of live plants for seahorses to hitch to
Not a good mix for the tank at all. Anemones and seahorses should not be in the same tank in my opinon. Seahorses would do well in a tank with pipefish but I'd try to keep it a species tank because of their special needs.

hey there. glad to see you are asking about your mix before doing it. its always nice when people learn before buying.
for starters, tomato clowns can get real nasty, not a good mix with sea horses and pipefish. i personally wouldnt even put percula clowns or anything like that with seahorses. in fact, i wouldnt put anemones in there either. thats me though.
also, sea horses and pipefish are generally not considered good animals for first time saltwater hobbyists. even very experienced aquarists can have trouble with them. Feedings can be tough and long term survival is minimal unless great care is taken to ensure survival of these animals. I am not saying it cant be done, but a fair warning has been handed out.
Id go with clowns and other fairly hardy fish until you build up your confidence.
