There is another option: you can still get a lot of live, preferably fast growing (stem) plants. If the LFS keeps them with fish, they will also have bacteria on them.
When you want to get rid of the gouramis go to the Ohio Fish Rescue FB community, they have a lot of members and can arrange for them to be rescued, at no cost. I'm also concerned about the "shark", it's either going to be ill tempered or grow bigger as your tank.
