new tank for a new hobbyist:)

-How long does the "fishless" cycle take with Shimp? Is there a thread on this method?

It was a jumbo shrimp in a 60g, I wanted to make sure there was a lot of ammonia production. My shrimp cycle took 2 weeks (on day 14, ammonia and nitrites were 0.0, nitrates 5ppm - I have plants). I did changed out 10g of water and immediately added 8 congo tetras and 6 bronze corys, I never saw an ammonia/nitrite spike. They acclimated immediately.

It was actually really cool - I freed the congos and they all found hiding places for about 15 minutes, now they zoom all over the place and even interact with the corys - it's really neat! I'm getting harlequin rasboras soon!

thanks everyone for all of this info.
we're going to try doing the fishless cycling with the liquid ammonia. we have a green cabomba.
the light is a 9 inch coralife, i believe.
i don't think we're going to get the tetras anymore, but if we do, we will get the black tetras or the bloodfin

hey so, my girlfriend and i are planning on setting up a freshwater tank, we're getting a 35 gallon (breeding tank, i believe) from a friend of my family.
i have a few questions

we're thinking about putting a couple angels, some tetras, and some mollies in. but i want to know what needs to be done to prepare for this and to care for them.(we wanted the tetras to start cycling, is that a good idea? will they nip at the angels?)

also, is this a good idea? what other fish could be put in(or should we not put some in)

what kind of filter, pump, equipment do we need?
and what all do we need to start this?

any help on this would be amazing

Smaller tetras wont last long with Angels. Angels are known to nip and pick on smaller fish such as tetras. If you do go with a smaller tetra like a Neon, cardinal black etc, be prepared if the Angels dont agree with them.

Like said, Fishless cycles are always best so you dont shock the fish. It is very hard on the fish themselves and there gills when Ammonia levels spike.

I wouldnt waste you money on a Liquid ammonia. Just get a raw shrimp liek said and place that in the tank. That wil start the cycle.

ALways remember to not rush anything. things take time.

thanks guys,
we started cycling with fish food, we were advised to do that when we went to a pet shop
and i just found out that its a 25 gal, think that matters with the two angels we want to get?

I think that might be a little small for even 1 angel. I grew out a pair in a 33 and they were not happy at all.
